Turkey is currently a top travel destination where people from all over the world come to experience a country that once held the capital of the Roman and Byzantine empires. Therefore, the nearly 120,000 Indonesians welcomed by Turkey in 2018 should come as no surprise.
The transcontinental country is undoubtedly filled with beautiful scenic landscapes and imbibes a rich, vibrant atmosphere known for its hospitality throughout the ages, besides having a perfect mix of Eastern and Western cultures in Istanbul.
Over 40 million worldwide visitors make the journey every year to experience Turkey. As such, the government has been keen on introducing measures designed to make it easier for people to travel to the country. One such measure is the new Turkish eVisa.
This electronic travel authorization allows travelers from a select group of about 100 countries to apply for a Turkish tourist visa without having to visit a local Turkish embassy or consulate. Instead, travelers can go through the entire visa application process online in a few simple steps and receive the necessary Turkish visa within a matter of days.
It is worth noting the Indonesian government has travel and visa protocol agreements in place with their Turkish counterparts, making Indonesian passport holders eligible to travel to Turkey on a Turkish eVisa.
Turkish Visa Requirements for Indonesians
In order to travel to the country, travelers from Indonesia will have to conform to certain basic visa conditions and requirements to apply for the Turkish eVisa, including:
- Having a valid Indonesian passport with a 150-day validity beyond the date of arrival in the country
- A valid email address where updates on the eVisa application can be sent
- A debit or credit card that can be used to pay the respective visa fee
Important notice: Indonesian travelers planning to receive their vaccinations ahead of their travel to Turkey are advised to begin the immunization sequence at least 6 weeks before their travel to the country.
Additionally, travelers that are concerned about meeting the passport requirements for their trip to Turkey may want to consider renewing their passport.
Documents Required to Travel to Turkey from Indonesia
Once travelers have ascertained that the basic requirements for the Turkish eVisa have been met, they may begin the eVisa application process by filling out a simple online application with some key details such as:
- Full name
- Date of birth and place of birth
- Passport number
- Date of issuance and date of expiration
- Email address
- Phone number
Indonesian travelers will also be required to provide travel information and answer some basic security questions. Travelers are advised to provide the most accurate details available, which includes the fact of sharing the existence of possible criminal records. Failure to do so can have a negative impact on their travel plans that may lead up to a visa denial in some cases.
There will be a chance for travelers to review the information they have entered on the form ahead of submitting it and travelers can use this to make any necessary amendments they need.
There is also a processing fee that travelers will be required to pay in order to complete the application process. This fee can be cleared using either a debit or credit card that is valid for online transactions.
Each traveler will need to have their own Turkish electronic visa in order to travel to the country. Therefore, travelers that are traveling as part of a group, or with other family members will need to apply of a separate eVisa for each member of the family or group.
It is highly recommended that travelers consider applying for the Turkish e-Visa at least 3 days in advance of their travel to the country to ensure they will have the necessary authorizations in place for entering the country.
Turkey eVisa Application for Indonesian Nationals
Indonesian travelers that have submitted a Turkish eVisa application can expect to receive an update on the status of their application within a few days of submitting.
It typically takes up to 3 business days for a Turkish eVisa application to be vetted after which a decision is reached as to whether or not to grant the applicant the requested eVisa.
If the Indonesian citizen’s Turkish eVisa application is approved, they will receive the eVisa via email. They will then have to print out a copy of the eVisa to take with them to the airport when they travel.
The Turkish eVisa can either be a single- or multiple-entry eVisa depending on the petitioner’s nationality. In the case of Indonesian passport holders, they can apply for a single-entry online visa.
In this regard, it is relevant to know this online visa is primarily designed for people intending to stay in the country for short durations either for transit, tourism or business purposes. The maximum validity of the Turkish eVisa is 90 days within a given 180-day period.
Are Indonesians Eligible for a Turkey Visa on Arrival?
Prior to the eVisa launch, there were 37 countries eligible for a visa on arrival in Turkey. One of them was Indonesia, whose citizens could obtain a VoA under certain conditions.
However, with the introduction of an electronic visa to enter Turkey, the VoA kiosks have been discontinued as of 2018 in some Turkish ports of entry. Therefore, it is highly recommended that Indonesian nationals prefer a Turkish e-Visa. This new travel authorization is also easier to obtain and allows passengers to avoid queues in the immigration desks.
